2011 MEMBER’S ONLY ART SHOW WAS JURORED BY ELIZABETH HOLDEN:

About the Judge:  ELIZABETH A. HOLDEN     elizabeth.holden@unt.edu

Ms. Holden’s art statement:

Art is every experience, every memory, every stage in life that results in a transitory, multi-layered self, a liminal being of the past and the present.  The mind records impressions, objects, spaces and persons.  Each memory is a reflection of that moment but also an accumulation of later events, later feelings and a later self.  The images become an expression of these visual recordings, reflections of place, memory and identity.
With integrity and a passion for creativity, I value my role as a mentor and participant in meeting the needs of the student and the community.  As an educator, my ultimate goal is to help students develop critical thinking skills as they relate to three areas: a better understanding of themselves; a clear vision of their artistic and professional goals; and an awareness of their role as artists in a postmodern society.  My role as gallery director at Cedar Valley College has allowed me the opportunity to introduce students to a variety of media, ideas and cultures, expanding their exposure to the art world.
